Sunset Vineyard: When you think about the great wine growing regions in Australia, Kangaroo Island isn’t one that immediately springs to mind. Although still in its youth, some the wines produced here have been highly praised by international wine critics. Many of the vineyards were planted after 1993, and it’s only been recently that first dedicated cellar door and winery was opened. Sunset winery is situated amongst fourteen hectares of native bush land. Many species of native birds and wild life, have called this place home. A dream that took five years to come to fruition, the Sunset Winery cellar door was opened in April 2003. Elevated views overlooking picturesque Eastern Cove and beyond can be enjoyed from the tasting room and deck area. The Sunset Winery vineyards are planted on the Dudley Peninsular. The surrounding bush land protects the vines particularly during flowering from the strong Island breezes. The winery produces a Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. When it comes to wine tasting, you have the choice of a couple of options. You can go for the splash taste and try each of these three wines individually, or there’s the tasting experience. The wines are accompanied with three Kangaroo Island cheeses, Wild Olive Oil and Freshly baked bread.
