Barossa Valley Estate Vineyard: At Barossa Valley Estate there is a unique partnership between grower and winemaker. This partnership has existed since Barossa Valley Estate established itself in the mid 1980’s as a wholly owned cooperative company. In the mid 1990’s it became a 50/50 project with the now Hardy Wine Company. To a large extent the relationship between grower and winemaker is based on mutual trust. The grower relies on the winemaker’s judgment to get the best out of the fruit through the wine making process. The winemaker relies on the grower to manage the vineyard properly and produce the best fruit. The Barossa Valley has some of the oldest vines in the world – some vines are over 100 years old. There is no substitute for vine age; young vines are simply not able to produce fruit with the same intensity, texture and mouth feel. Australia has some the oldest vines in the world as we were protected from the dreaded phylloxare virus, which devastated vineyards in Europe around the 1860’s. Barossa Valley Estate offers a diverse portfolio of wines from the Spires, Moculta, Ebenezer, to the flagship E and E Black Pepper Shiraz. Barossa Valley Estate is internationally recognized for producing premium wines. In 2001, US magazine Wine Enthusiast jointly crowned the 1998 E and E Black Pepper Shiraz as the best Shiraz in the world.
