Ravenswood Lane Vineyard: Ravenswood lane was planted in 1993 and rapidly became one of the premier vineyards in the Adelaide Hills. After been hospitalized with flying disease DVT, John Edwards was inspired to become a vigneron after reading ‘A Year in Province’. He stepped out of the globe-trotting world of Grand Prix marketing to start in a new direction. As other major players in the wine industry seemed to be moving into the Adelaide Hills John followed their lead and purchased Ravenswood Lane. The cooler climate is one of the key elements to growing great fruit. The colder temperatures produce fruit with a greater finesse and structure. John’s personal philosophy of pushing the limits is carried on through to the vineyard. Constant experimentation is required in an effort to maximize the quality of the fruit produced. John’s two labels Starvedog Lane and Ravenswood Lane are treated quite differently with respect to the fruit and wine making process. Fruit for Starvedog Lane is sourced from all over the Adelaide Hills. Ravenswood Lane is single vineyard wine and therefore only fruit produced at Ravenswood is used for the label Ravenswood Lane. Starvedog is modern Australian and John utilizes the great winemakers from BRL Hardy and their modern technology. With Ravenswood Lane a more traditional approach is used and the wine has greater elegance and complexity.
