15 Jul You Know You Want It!!

Calling all Dazed and Confused fans! This week’s FridayFlix pick, Everybody Wants Some!!, is director Richard Linklater’s “spiritual sequel” to the 1993 high-school comedy. It’s the summer of 1980 and there’s a 3-day weekend before college classes start. Freshman pitcher Jake (Blake Jenner, “Glee”) moves into an old run-down house reserved specifically for the school baseball team. He’s immediately greeted by his teammates, who seem to have extreme personalities and a whole lot of testosterone. Although Jake seems to be the shy guy at first, viewers will see his confidence grow with the help of his new friends during the “best years of their lives”. Together, they make their way between plenty of girls, baseball, parties, and more parties.

Linklater has an evident style that many comedies are unable to portray. Everybody Wants Some is easy going and casual, but still maintains a laugh out loud funny feel. Obviously this comes naturally for Linklater, making us believe that there’s a sense of nostalgia he felt when creating this script. Although he may alter the circumstances or jokes, it feels so authentic that Linklater must’ve had some of these experiences. Who knows, maybe Everbody Wants Some will even take you back to your own college days, making things even funnier.
