27 Mar The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies Review
The Final Installment
This weekend, join FlixFling in experiencing the final installment of the worldwide, Hobbit phenomenon. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies completes director Peter Jackson’s visionary trilogy, capping off a series that has been popular with audiences and critics alike. Now that the dwarves of Lonely Mountain have successfully fended off the evil dragon, Smaug, they must prepare for yet another test of will. Unable to consolidate power amongst their allies, the forces of Lonely Mountain and neighboring Lake-Town begin to weaken against the looming threat of the enemy army. Bilbo Baggins, bearer of the Ring and the center of our story, must use his skills of leadership and diplomacy to unite his people and save his homeland, once and for all.
Proving that he is still the master of the “blockbuster,” Jackson once again brings audiences a CGI-riddled spectacle of a film, complete with sweeping views of the New Zealand countryside and fantastic battle sequences of epic proportions. Critics of his Hobbit Trilogy have noted these effects sometimes hinder the films’ storytelling ability, yet in this latest installment, it seems a fitting way to end things. This final film encapsulates the themes attempted in its predecessors and provides closure to a story so familiar and beloved by many. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is a can’t miss event for those who have read, and cherished, the original J.R.R. Tolkien novel. It is an all-around enthralling experience of escape and adventure.
