Hardy Wine Company Vineyards: The concept of regionality stems from the desire to produce wines that are reflective of both their region and grape variety. The Hardy Wine Company has invested in a number of wineries such as Leasingham, Stonehaven, Houghton, Banrock Station, Kamberra, key regions of the Clare Valley, Limestone Coast, Swan Valley, Riverland and Canberra. Winemakers are encouraged to focus on their particular region’s strengths and produce wines with regional personality. These wineries are, in effect, operated like small, local wineries. As the Australian wine industry matures, it confirms that certain regions suit certain varieties. The goal for the Hardy Wine Company is for the top wines from each brand to be single vineyard wines with distinctly regional flavor profiles. One of the traps large wine companies can fall into is that the wines from their different brands can taste the same. However this is not the case at the Hardy Wine Company. They deliberately embrace diversity and their portfolio now includes a range of affordable red wines that express the respective brand’s distinctive regionality. They have brought together two distinct philosophies. Firstly, to follow the grand Australian tradition of blending varieties and regions, and secondly, the small winery approach, which focuses on the expression of regionality, personality and maintaining diversity in the range. This leads to the ultimate aim of achieving complexity and a distinctive style. In the past regional wines have tended to be more expensive, which is why The Hardy Wine Company has utilized its resources to produce a range of affordable regional wines. Names like Bastion, Stepping Stone, Rockwell, Oomoo and Epiphany are becoming familiar sights to wine lovers across the country. The wines and varieties have been selected to showcase the fruit flavors that excel in the respective brand’s region.
