04 Mar It’s a Thrilling Ride

Now in theaters and new to FlixFling is the Norwegian disaster movie from Magnolia Pictures, The Wave. The film takes place in the picturesque mountainside town in Norway, that’s constantly on the verge of collapsing. Viewers are immediately introduced to Kristian (Kristoffer Joner), a geologist, and his family who plan to move away from their hometown, Geiranger, to pursue his new job. Just as they begin the journey to their new house, Kristian realizes the mountain they’ve always lived near may be in danger. After a few scientific studies, it appears more than just the mountain is in trouble. Before anyone is able to prepare, a tsunami hits Geiranger and everyone must head for the top of the hills. Unfortunately, Kristian’s family is separate from one another as the disaster begins and limits are undoubtedly tested.

The Wave is set apart from all other typical Hollywood disaster films due to its plausible scenario. Director Roar Uthaug took a real life concern and did his part in raising necessary awareness, making it more than your typical Sci-Fi film. What you see in The Wave is a very real issue that this small town in Norway is threatened with each day. Although the mountain hasn’t collapsed yet, it actually will one day. Hopefully by then, tourists and natives will be more prepared than those in the film.
