Fear The Ones Left Behind

Although Halloween is still a few weeks away, FlixFling has already gotten into the spirit of thrills and suspense. This FridayFlix we’re featuring our newest horror movie from Magnolia Pictures, The Last Shift. Rookie police officer Jessica Loren, played by Juliana Harvaky from “The Walking Dead”, is assigned the very last shift at a police station that is about to shut down.  All alone, Jessica is instructed to wait for a hazmat crew to pick up the biomedical waste from the armory. She doesn’t want to disobey the rules on her first night, so Jessica does what she is told.  In time she realizes that there’s more to the outdated police station than meets the eye. The station is home to the ultimate embodiment of evil and his devoted followers. Cult leader, Paymon, haunts the station ever since the day he and two of his followers committed suicide on the night of their arrest. Jessica must fend for herself in the devil’s playground.

Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of The Last Shift is that the protagonist, Jessica, is one of the only people we see throughout the one-location film. While this can make for a boring, monotonous watch for viewers, Juliana Harvaky is an absolutely intriguing actress and does very well at keeping the suspense alive. Also, hats off to director Anthony DiBlasi for taking a dreary setting and bringing out its full potential to create a thriller that fulfills the horror film checklist. Without the talents of Juliana Harvaky and Anthony DiBlasi working together, The Last Shift would not have been the same movie. Expect to see these two again in the future!
